Asked Questions: Q: Why are you selling SP
Designs kits in the USA?
A: I got to know Sergej (the owner of SP Designs)
back in around 1997 when he was still casting using polyethylene resins (fiberglass
resins) and only doing a few BTR-80 and BMP-1 conversions. I was impressed with the
amount of work he put into the kits, and the uniqueness of the subject material. I
wanted to help encourage people in the USA to buy his kits without worrying about
"internatioanl commerce". I also wanted to be able to suggest different
resins and rubber mold materials to Sergej to help improve his product.
Q: Do you make any money or other benefit from selling
SP Designs kits?
A: No. I recieve no compensation for helping
Sergej sell his kits in the USA, nor for building and running the SAAM website. I
look at it as both a hobby and a service to the modelling community.
Q: Will you ever run SAAM as a profit oriented
business?
A: Probably, but not including SP Designs. I have,
in the past, sold plastic kits at a reduced price. These were mainly meant to
accompany the SP Design kits. I have not taken this back up primarily because there
are many good internet companies that can meet any price I was charging. However...
Q: Will SAAM ever produce any of its own resin
kits?
A: Almost certainly. I have many ideas, I am
gaining knowledge in casting resin pieces, and I have the desire to take on the
aftermarket business. And not all the subjects I want to tackle would be 1/35 nor
even armor.
However, until all my children are in school, I have no
time to really take this on. Basically, it is a "keep tuned" proposition
at this point.
